A new study shows that awnings are one of the most likely buildings to be torn down in a cyclone, which is what happened to a barn in Georgia this year.
A large swath of the country was hit by a strong tornado in February.
But the barn’s owners were not expecting a storm of this size to come through.
It was actually one of their more unique buildings to survive.
“It was the largest structure that we have in the state of Georgia, but it was really just a barn,” said Mark Miller, owner of Awning Designers of Atlanta.
“I mean, it was just a simple building, but that barn was a barn.”
The barn had been home to a couple of generations of A&M’s employees for years.
Miller has been in business for nearly 20 years, and has owned several other barns in the Atlanta area.
The idea for the barn came from a couple who had lost their homes in the tornado.
“It just happened to be the right size, because we had built houses in the past and the houses just collapsed,” Miller said.
“And so we figured we’d try and save as much as we could and we’d just try and keep it as simple as possible.”
After a tornado, the owners decided to rebuild.
But when they built the barn, it did not come with any pre-fabricated pieces.
“We were really just building it on our own and that was a real challenge,” Miller explained.
“So we had to improvise.”
After weeks of designing, hammering and sanding, they finally had something that looked good.
They named it the Awnerator.
Miller and his wife built it from scratch, adding a few items from the local supply chain to give it a more modern feel.
He says the result is a beautiful and functional structure that makes the barn seem like a modern, modern building.
“This was our attempt to make it feel more like a barn, and I think it works,” Miller added.
“The way it’s made looks like it could actually be a barn that is actually on the ground.”
